If you are on a dual rate tariff, you can set up smart charging by specifying an energy you want to consume and a "ready by" time. The system will determine if energy can be met entirely during off-peak hours. If not, it will schedule additional charging sessions before off-peak times to meet your needs.
If the car becomes fully charged before reaching the target, it will stop, and the charger's status will change to 'Suspended EV', indicating that the car cannot accept more charge. The same schedule based on the specified target will be automatically recreated the next time you plug in the car.
If you want to take advantage of charging during off-peak hours, always set a realistic target for the energy to be consumed. Electric Miles does not monitor the live state of your battery; the app instead calculates the schedule based on your selected monetary target. For example, if your target is to spend £10.00 and your off-peak rate is 30 pence per kWh, with a charger output of 7.2 kWh, the charger can deliver approximately £2.16 worth of charge per hour. Consequently, the app will estimate a charging schedule roughly 4 hours long. If your off-peak hours last less than 4 hours, the app will configure a schedule that starts before the off-peak period begins and tries to maximize the use of this time. However, remember that your battery’s capacity may not allow for a full £10.00 of charge, and charging could cease before the off-peak period ends.
