How does smart charging work based on energy preferences on a dual-rate tariff?

If you are on a dual rate tariff, you can set up smart charging by specifying a budget for the energy you want to consume and a "ready by" time. The system will determine if your budget can be met entirely during off-peak hours. If not, it will schedule additional charging sessions before off-peak times to meet your needs.

If the car becomes fully charged before reaching the target, it will stop, and the charger's status will change to 'Suspended EV', indicating that the car cannot accept more charge. The same schedule based on the specified target will be automatically recreated the next time you plug in the car.

If you want to take advantage of charging during off-peak hours, always set a realistic target for the energy to be consumed. Electric Miles does not consider the live state of your battery; instead, the app calculates the schedule based on your selected target. For example, if your target is to charge 40 kWh and your charger has an output of 7.2 kWh, the app will estimate a charging schedule approximately 6 hours long. If your off-peak hours span less than a 6-hour window, the app will create a schedule that begins before the off-peak period starts and aims to utilise its full length. Keep in mind that your battery's capacity may not accept a full 40 kWh, and charging could stop before the off-peak period ends.
